TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION:

For the needs of the investor, the company Ferro-preis Ltd., it was necessary to make a project for the installation of two wall mounted jib cranes. The maximum load capacity of the cranes is 500 kg per crane, and the reach of the hook from the axis of rotation is 4,2 m.

Wall mounted jib cranes are used to collect slag from the surface of the melt in the furnaces using a slag remover that is permanently suspended from the crane hook. The opening and closing of the slag remover is performed by means of a pneumatic cylinder. Raising and lowering the slag remover and driving the hoist along the console is electrically driven. The rotation of the console is performed manually by pulling the slag remover.

The cranes are operated from the floor using a suspended cable control unit with reduced voltage located at the end of the console bracket. The control bracket is connected to the hoist at an angle so that the worker is approx. 1,8 m away from the furnace during operation. At the end of the control bracket, a protective plate against thermal radiation and melt splashes is mounted.

The steel construction of the wall mounted jib cranes basically consists of:

  • two consoles, and
  • bearing assembly, consisting of two horizontal steel tubes.

An electric chain hoists manufactured by "RWM" Italy are installed as lifting mechanisms on each wall mounted jib crane.

The basic technological purpose of the crane is to work with the slag remover. The slag remover is a pneumatic device used to collect slag from the surface of the melt in the furnaces, and is hung on a crane hook. It consists of a cylindrical housing, a vertically mounted pneumatic cylinder with associated installation, a lever system and two spherical shovels for collecting slag. The opening and closing of the spherical blades of the slag remover is ensured by a pneumatic cylinder. The operation of the cylinder is controlled by a solenoid valve 5/3 built into the pneumatic control cabinet, which is commanded by pressing the appropriate button on the control unit.

The electrical equipment of the crane consists of:

  • electric motor of the lifting mechanism with brake,
  • electric motor for driving the hoist,
  • electrical cabinets with frequency converters for controlling electric motor drives,
  • suspended cable control unit with reduced voltage,
  • main switches, and
  • power and control cables.
